Steven W. Baker

CPA, CGMA, Managing Partner 

Steve is the son of a forty year business owner.  He is a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa.   He thinks like a business owner, but speaks CPA.  This is a rare combination.  He has also been recently designated as a Chartered Global Management Accountant based on experience and his 30 year affiliation with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Iowa Society of Certified Public Accountants.

He has been a licensed CPA for 31 years.  During those 31 years, he has been a chief financial officer or chief operating officer at companies with sales ranging from $2 million per year to $55 million per year.  His significant hands-on experience in the construction, distribution, medical, and manufacturing industries has allowed him to see the best and worst practices of the business world and to know what works and what doesn't.  He has been instrumental in directing company turn-arounds which have taken firms from large losses to large profits in a short time.

Since founding this practice in 2004, his real world experience has proven valuable to business owners facing challenges in banking, budgeting, cash management, profitability improvement, strategic planning, and taxation issues they may face in their business or personally.

Dirk M. Dixon

After making the Deans’ List every semester at Grand View College, he graduated in 1997 with a Bachelors of Business Administration. He began working that same year at Farm Bureau Financial and later at New England Financial before coming to Baker & Associates, LLP in 2007.  During this time he received recognition for his work including, earning the Accredited Tax Advisor status (ATA) with the National Society of Accountants as well as being a member with the Iowa Society of Licensed Public Accountants and the National Association of Enrolled Agents.

 He is a Licensed Public Accountant (LPA) with the State of Iowa, an Enrolled Agent (EA) with the Internal Revenue Service, and a Registered Financial Consultant (RFC). 

Dirk has written a book titled “Fighting Back!  Expert Tips And Advice On How To Fight The IRS And Win!” as well as expert financial advisory articles in publications like “The Register.” He also volunteers with the State of Iowa at the Low Income Taxpayer Clinics to help taxpayers involved in controversies with the IRS or educating individuals about their tax rights and responsibilities.  Dirk also has presented educational tax seminars and consulted for the Small Business Administration.

CPA

Tanya has been with the firm since 2009. She is a graduate of Upper Iowa University and began her accounting career in 1984.  After holding accounting positions in both the manufacturing and distribution industries, as well as the legal profession, Tanya began working in public accounting in 1996.  Her background includes performing compilations, reviews and audits of financial statements, as well as preparing corporate and individual tax returns.  Tanya helps our clients through all phases of their accounting needs, from daily accounting functions through monthly financial statement reporting and annual tax return preparation.  She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Iowa Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Jean Hartig

Small Business Account Manager

Jean joined the firm in May 2006  Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Jean received her Bachelor of Science degree from Millersville University, Millersville, PA.  After graduation, Jean moved to Iowa with her family and has held management and accounting positions as an Office Manager and Treasurer of a manufacturing company, Manager of a racquet club, and Church Administrator.  Jean is in our small busness accounting area.
